The History

McPherson Guitars is a high-end, custom guitar shop located in Sparta, WI, USA. In the late 1990s, Matt McPherson began pursuing a revolutionary acoustic guitar design, resulting in world-class instruments known for their brilliance and sustain. Renowned for their impeccable craftsmanship, McPherson’s team of skilled luthiers produces a limited number of heirloom-quality wooden guitars each year.

More recently, these same design principles have been applied to the McPherson Carbon Series, crafted with the same philosophy and delivering exceptional results. The Carbon Series is quickly gaining recognition as the best-sounding carbon fiber acoustic guitar available today.

In addition to his work at McPherson Guitars, Matt McPherson is the Founder and CEO of Mathews Archery, the world’s leading archery company, also based in Sparta, WI, USA.

Offset Sound Hole

Believing that traditional acoustics could be innovated, McPherson introduced a revolutionary Offset Soundhole Technology. The placement of the sound hole allows for a lengthened and uninterrupted soundboard, amplifying vibration in the center of the guitar top. This also produces more volume and clarity in the ears of the player.

Cantilevered Neck

Every McPherson guitar features a Cantilevered Neck, which is not glued or connected to the top of the guitar, but instead floats above it. This design allows the soundboard area underneath the fretboard to vibrate freely, which increases the sustain of the guitar.

Overpass / Underpass Bracing

McPherson’s unique Overpass/Underpass Bracing System creates a larger, more even space for the top to vibrate. The soundboard’s braces cross each other but never touch or inhibit vibration. This frees the braces to vibrate independently while still lending structural support and maximizing soundboard vibration.

Carbon Reinforced Neck

The McPherson Carbon Reinforced Neck is praised for its incredible strength and stability and is built around the largest carbon fiber truss rod ever used on a guitar. Attached to the body with a triangulated heel design, it stabilizes the neck and virtually eliminates the need for neck adjustments.
